Everything is opinionated, but I can say that I have had an easier time with Onkyo than with Denon. Onkyo has menus that are far easier to navigate then Denon, but Denon packs more audio punch for the dollar.

I'm a tech wiz, I help everyone I know out with their computers... yet I'm struggling with Denon's Menu map. But yet, I still keep the Denon because it's sound simply kicks on my 8inch JBL floorstanders.

My point is, every brand is a trade off, no one is better than the other. Find what's best for you and go with it.

My personal opinion is that Onkyos are the most user friendly of them all. And that is a definite plus.

Different brands excel at different things. Klipsch for speakers for example. That doesn't mean that they are the best speaker manufacturer. It also doesn't mean that they aren't either. It's personal taste, particularly when it comes to speakers. You are asking an absolute. There is no "best." It just doesn't work that way. Personally I like Marantz receivers because of their sound and user friendly features. That is not to say that Pioneer and the others mentioned doesn't make receivers that sound as good. There is so much variety and so many variables that it's impossible to answer your question definitively. Take a look at B&K receivers for example:

No one can say that they can't outperform any of the brands you mentioned but they are decidedly high-end. You could buy two or three Pioneer receivers for the price that you'd pay for a B&K. It all depends on what you are willing to spend and what kind of features you are seeking. If I could afford it I'd plunk down the $3000 for a B&K receiver and another $3000 for a set of Martin Logan electrostatic speakers but I need a new furnace and the money would be better spent on that. I'd probably be pretty happy with that system and to be it would be "best" to me but the kid who drives his pickup past my house several times a day with his "boob - boom" stereo blasting would probably find it lacking be happier with a 1500 watt (peak power) Technical Pro receiver and a set of gaudy looking, cheap but loud "Mega Bass" speakers.

It depends on what price range your talking about in the under $250 I would go with Pioneer then Onkyo; Denon doesn't make anything that cheap...... in the above $500 under $750 I would go Denon; Onkyo; Pioneer Yamaha depending on which model and the type of discount you can get......above 1000 Marantz; Integra; Anthem; NAD.....

Pioneer is the best money can buy hands down and Yamaha falls back in second place.
