This is a good receiver that you should be happy with. It offers a good balance of features and performance -and it is not too terribly awful looking either. ;-) However, if you want to compare it up against other excellent choices, here are some that I would recommend as well for this (~$1,500) pricing arena... Arcam DiVA AVR300 Sony STR-DA7100ES Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi JVC RX-DP10V Onkyo TX-SR803 (honorable mention) Outlaw Audio 1070 (honorable mention) JVC RX-D702B (honorable mention) H a p p y H o m e T h e a t e r i n g !

I have had Yamaha's in the past and had no problems. Looking for a new receiver as well but find it interesting that many of the review sites tend to lean towards Onkyo, Pioneer and Denon?

Got it the first time it comes out! And loving it. Strong enough to handle your speakers easily. Personally have Polk audio speakers and an HVS sub. It sounds phenomenal. Make sure to calibrate your system properly and away you go! :)
