You will always be better off buying the components separately. Buy a good blu-ray player, then find a good receiver, and pick out which speakers fit you best. Get some good speaker wire too. If you want to minimize what you have to buy, personally I'd suggest buying a sony blu-ray, then getting a yamaha surround sound system, and some hdmi cables. It cost a little more to buy everything separately, but you get exactly what you want. To tell you what to buy exactly, I'd need the dimensions of the room, what type of tv, etc.

Well to answer your question directly, you probably just have to buy Sony's most expensive system and that will probably be, "the ultimate home theater system by Sony". That system will probably be almost as good as the worst possible home theatre system that could be constructed using different manufacturers for the various components.

Unless you have some sort of gift certificate for a free Sony home theatre system that is forcing you to go Sony you will be far better off to look for a receiver from Pioneer, Onkyo, Denon or others, A Sony Blu-Ray player is ok, I have a couple Sony players and they are ok. Look for speakers from a speaker manufacturer and look for the subwoofer from a subwoofer manufacturer. Make sure the name Sony is not on any of the components other than possibly the Blu-Ray player.

I would not recommend any of those home theater in a box. They are not flexible for adding anything or for upgrading, when one item fails the whole system has to be replace. You are better off buying separate components. Sony reliability has dropped over the years. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice many Sony product with problems. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on all products. Hope this will help you out.

Frankly, Sony's best home theater system can be beaten in sound quality and connectivity by spending only a few hundred $ on a good name brand home theater receiver (Like a 5.1 unit made by Pioneer, Yamaha, Denon and Harman Kardon; Sony receivers are not very good.) which then runs a good quality 5.1 speaker system, such as a Polk 6750 set which can be bought for $225 from Amaz*n.

People who buy all in one HT systems are just throwing their money away.

Sony would not be the brand if designing the best home theater. There low end products.

+ solid electronics are high priced..Pair your present day sony equiptment with Yamaha 4100 sound bar..it is going to compliment your television and disc participant..Ive considered them new on ebay for 999. introduced..So verify earlier you purchase ..the sound bar removes a rats nest of wiring.encompass sound is simulated and can be rather convincing....take exhilaration in..The sony ct a hundred and fifty sound bar is a much low-cost selection.with hdmi inputs.for cable/television and blueray participant.the two sound bars are wall mountable
