HDMI Cable Questions?

I have a few questions. Why do people need hdmi cables? What is it primarily used for?

Also, would you say a 6 feet hdmi cable is good compared to say a 10ft or a 25ft? Under what circumstances would a longer hdmi cable be necessary as oppose to a 6ft hdmi cable? Is 6ft hdmi cable the standard? Is it because they connect it right next to the other machine?

If you had to just buy 1 hdmi cable, what feel would you get? 6 ft, 10ft or 25ft?

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is used when u want to transmit and display audio/video from one device onto another. For e.g. u are paying a game on your smartphone but you want to play it on your large screen TV to get a proper HD experience. The length of the cable is up to you. I say the 10ft (3 meters) is enough for any purpose (playing games, watching movies etc)

You buy the minimum length cable to go from your source device (BluRay player, Game system, HD Cable or sat box) to the TV.

HDMI had problems a few years back with runs over 15 ft. If you wanted to go farther than that - you needed to buy a HDMI cable with thicker inner wires and thicker inner insulation. This made the cable a lot thicker and less likely to bend.

I use 2 and 3 ft HDMI cables in my rack to feed a HDMI switch. Then I have an extra thick HDMI cable from BlueJeansCables to go from the switch to the TV. It is a custom 14 ft cable that cost me something like $38 last year. It is a really thick and heavy cable - but it is in-wall rated and has a 300 lb pull strength to go up/down floors.

Just go to Amazon and get some "Media Bridge" brand HDMI cables for $9-$20.

...really? Even a ten second search on Google or a single look at a home theater system would tell you what it's for. And why would you need various lengths? Well, gee, maybe certain pieces of equipment are a certain distance from each other, thus requiring a cable at least as long as the distance between the two HDMI ports?

Here's a brief article that might help answer your question:

HDMI is one cable that combines a digital video signal and a digital audio signal. Its the best overall type of connection to make.
