I have a Gateway FPD1975W 19" Widescreen Monitor Model #: GTW FPD1975W. I was wondering If I could use a VGA to component video cable to hook up a DVD Player. The DVI port is being used.

Thanks,

Yes you can. It requires an adapter not just a cable.

You can use a simple vga to component cable when you turn a vga signal into a component signal but it requires an adapeter to go the other way (turn component into VGA).

Your speaking about RCA audio vs RCA for element video, they're particularly a lot an identical situation yet no longer precisely, the resistance spec are diverse for audio and video, also if you're attempting to pass a 720 P signal you'll desire a extra constructive cable, particularly over an prolonged distance; more cost-effective audio cables have 2 conductors at the same time as the added constructive element cable recommended for HD (720p) has 3 conductors effective unfavorable and floor, its reminiscent of the version between 3 prong electric powered plugs and a couple of prong electric powered plugs they are going to both artwork yet for heavy duty artwork you desire a three prong plug, so for 480i signals any RCA cable will do yet for HD 720P and longer distance runs you desire a shielded grounded cable...

You need something like the gizmo at the link. That's why LCD monotors and TV ready LCD monitors differ ... the latter build in the necessary electronics.
