Composite cable used with Component Video?

Question

Can I use my composite cable at component video ports of my dvd player and TV?

If there are any issues, other than bandwidth, please let me know.
I guess, since cable is used to pass the data from dvd palyer to TV and processing is done at TV and player, I can use the cable.

I have a philips DVD player and philips 100 HZ TV. The composite cable is also from philips.

For cable lengths 6ft or less, you should have no problem using 3 composite cables for component connections. There is a difference, however, since HIGH DEFINITION component video signals have a larger frequency range than composite cables were designed for. Therefore, for longer runs you may suffer high frequency loss. For really long run (more than 25'), there is even quality variation in component cables. Many years ago, Widescreen Review magazine tested a variety of component cables for 100' runs, and image quality differences were observed. Again, for short runs, it doesn't matter.

I concur the composite cable is the worst connection for video, S video is a step better and component video cable better than S video. So the food chain is this for video

the last connection is the latest for hd tv sets although hd still can be connected via component cable which analog but can transmit hd signals.

No you cannot use the composite cable instead of the component cable.

For one even though both cables have three parts of the cable they have different functions.

The composite cable has one cable (yellow) that carries the video signal, and two (red & white) that carries the audio signal.

The component cable carries only the video signal divided into the red,blue ,& green colors of the picture.

So you see if you would use the composite cable the video signal would be ony one-third of the color picture.

You are basically asking if there's any harm in using basically any old RCA cable to send the component signal coming from the DVD player to the TV. And the answer is yes. You can use any kind of RCA cable to transmit that signal from one to the other. It will not damage anything in any way. I've been doing this for over a year.

yes just use the yellow in the green slots and your red/white for audio will be used the same,, PEOPLE he asked if they can be used in the slots...YES they can...quality is not best but still works!
