Klipsch is a good rated brand, not my tastes sound wise, but well regarded. Since they use a horn for a tweeter, they are considered bright in sound, which turns some people off.



For the speaker system you are looking at also check out B&W, KEF, Revel, Dynaudio, Monitor and Paradigm. For the price range you are looking at, dont jump at the first system you hear at only one store, check out a couple!. Also skip Best Buy and head to a local Hi-End audio store, which will provide better service. In that price range, you have great choices like the B&W 700 Series, Revel Performa, Dynaudio Audience, and Paradigm Studio etc....



Skip the Sony and look at the Pioneer Elite 84TSXsi. Sony really has lost its way recently, the top of line ES, used to be a great line, but other brands such as Pioneer Elite, Integra, Denon and Yamaha offer better features and a warmer sound and for less money.



You are spending allot of $$$, so make sure you listen to some Cd's of your own taste while auditioning speakers and components. Make sure they use a similar system to which you plan on buying while listening.

I would pass on the Sony ES receiver. Sony ES components are a great choice with the notable exception of the receivers (even though they are better than other Sony receivers). Sony amplification is wimpy and you will note that the model you are considering is still measured at 1kHz with a high THD (not the way high end products are measured!). Furthermore, I think they sound too bright and even the ES receivers have a high rate of service problems (or at least they used to when I sold them). Also, I don't think Sony sound matches well with Klipsch (bright receiver with bright speakers = harsh). The store in my city that sells the most Klipsch sells almost exclusively Denon receivers with them because they believe they match best with Klipsch. For the same money as the Sony ES piece you can get a noticeably superior Denon.

Hi. The Klipsch speakers are very popular for their distinctive sound.Have you heard the speakers to see if you could live with them.It's very important to know because all speakers sound different (not necessarily good or bad only different) In general ,Klipsch have a fairly bright sound due to the use of a horn tweeter and sometimes a midrange horn .The bass can be average or deep depending on the model..



Loudspeakers that originate from Great Brittain usually have a more smoother sound with no emphasis on any particular frequency range (Treble Midrange Bass in equal amounts. )Such speakers are known as neutral or low coloration. But again you have to hear them to make up your mind.



I think Onkyo make better amps than Sony

The Onkyo TX -SR674 7.1Surround Sound Receiver for about $799 (rec.ret. price) will surpass your Sony for half the price.



Also NAD make superb sounding receivers with a lush warm valve like sound. They are designed in England and assembled in the East to strict specifications.They are more expensive than other receivers because of the detail of the sound they produce.



Their top model is the NAD T 773 . 7.1 Channel Receiver .The price is about $1500

The Klipsch speakers are VERY well regarded. I would definitely skip on the Sony ES receiver....

I would DEFINITELY check out the following for the $1500-$2000 price for your amplification needs....

The Adcom AV receiver is CLEARLY audiophile....do not be confused by the 145 Watt rating...wattage ratings are almost NEVER used by audiophiles....



This receiver is a beautiful looking piece of equipment as well.
