Hey
Im looking to buy a sound system for my bedroom. Iv been doing some research and im not sure whether im better off buying a separate amplifier and speakers or a all in one hi-fi system. Don't really know that much about the whole lot so i was wondering if someone could help me out. Cheers

The problem with an all in one system is that the manufacturer might put out good speakers, but not good electronics, and vise versa. Or it might be a company that puts out cheap stuff and they're offering an all in one system for a very affordable price. But, the better brands don't usually put out complete systems and you have to buy the pieces separately. So, as a general rule, buying separate components results in a better system. Unless, of course, you buy cheap crap components.

If you want ultimate listening pleasure you may invest on UK made speakers, Tube amplifier, and an audiophile grade cd player. Speaker brands such as B&W, Acoustic Energy, Mordaunt Short, UK made Celestion and lots of other choices. Vacuum Tube amps by McAlister Audio, Norman Koren, Jolida. Solid state amps like Mcintosh is a superb performer also. For a CD player, brands like Rotel, Nad, Marantz have good reviews. If you opt for surround audio experience, There are certain models that has built-in decoders to play formats like DTS cd, SACD, HDCD, but of course youl will also need 5.1 receivers and more speakers for this kind of set-up. I had that same question a couple months ago. I decided to go with the separates components and i never looked back. I went with a denon receiver, two klipsch floor standing speakers, and a klipsch subwoofer. I have it hooked up to my computer and a ps3. The speakers are amazing and all my friends are jealous!

Separates are always the best for sound quality but I would only worry about it if you are going to hold parties and you can hear the sound difference.

It depends what you want.

If you want convenience and you're not bothered about sound quality, buy an all-in-one system.

If you want good sound quality, buy a separates system.
