Question:
Component Video isn't working?

Right now I have a single composite wire going from my surround sound system to the TV (using the video source VID1), I want to replace it with component. But when I do that, and I put the TVs video source to CMP1, the screen remains blank. My satelite receiver does not have component, so it uses composite (white, yellow, red) to go from the satelite receiver to the sound system receiver. I checked the sound systems' manual, and it doesn't seem to have a setting telling it what I'm using.

You don't seem to mention what kind of system you have, but it does not sound like a full featured receiver.

Most basic systems do not have a transcoder to upconvert a composite signal (input from your sat) to a component signal (output to TV). The system only passes a signal to the TV as it was originally input.

I am assuming that you want to run component because you have a separate DVD (or built-in). If you feed the component signal to the system from a DVD, you will be able to pass it through to the TV.

The only way to make your sat and DVD work is to have BOTH composite and component hooked up to the TV. You will then have to switch the receiver AND TV each time your play them.

Hope this helps.

I listed my favorite companies receiver that does have this ability. See the link below.

Most receivers will not convert composite or s-video to component. Inputted composite signals are outputted on composite ports only. Check your manual; I'm sure it will say that component out can only come from component inputs.

well most of these answers are wrong you can convert s-video or composite through component but your receiver doesn't do it..also in your application doesn't make sense to use component , you will not get a better picture, unless you are using component out of the source devices(i.e. dvd, sat,x box etc.)

All components involved have to be able to accept component video. Also, make sure all of your components, if applicable, are switched to component video. I hope this helps. See Wikipedia for more details about how component video works.

i assume through element you advise "pink, eco-friendly, and Blue" video + R/W for audio. The black and white means that "eco-friendly" (Luma) is operating, notwithstanding the pink/blue get no longer some thing. a) make efficient there is no different cable out of the DVD participant (say, the old yellow cable) b) change the television to element enter - do you get a minimum of audio? then you recognize you're in the most ideal port (make efficient the DVD performs some thing) c) is your television HD (or does it help modern enter)? If no longer, and also you've the DVD participant at 480p, you gained't see some thing. pass lower back to composite (yellow) and adjust it to 480i d) change the r/g/b cables. Say use the "blue" (on each and every area) as "eco-friendly". If that helps to get a minimum of black and white, per chance there's a difficulty with the different cables.

If your sat receiver doesn't have component video output, you cannot use this input on your TV.

There is no way you can convert composit video into component video

NOT TRUE, SOME RECIEVERS ACTUALLY WILL UPCONVERT YOUR SOURCE VIA COMPONENT OR HDMI TO A 1080I OR 720P PICTURE. YAMAHA RXV 2700 IS JUST ONE OF MANY THAT WILL DO THIS. YOU MIGHT NOT GET A GRETA PICTURE BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU PROBABLY DONT HAVE AN HD TV. BUT THE ANSWER IS YES YOU CAN DO IT!
