I have an asus p5n-d motherboard with on board Realtek ALC883 audio. My 5.1 surround sound/dvd Receiver only had AV inputs and optical spdif in so i went out and bought a optical spdif cable and hooked it up. It sounds great and everything but its only using 2 speakers. On my reciever it says it has dolby digital and I'm using vista 64. Is there a way i can use all 5.1 channels"

Make sure you have a source with 5.1 audio such as a DVD player.

Go to the DVD menu and make sure you select 5.1 Dolby Dig. or DTS.

Make also sure you output "Bitstream" and NOT Linear PCM

Your Panasonic sc-pt760 does have a Dolby digital decoder so no count if it is presented a bitstream audio sign from the optical out on the television it provide you discrete 5.a million sound. via fact it fairly is no longer, i think you could make sure the television settings to make certain the optical out is outputting bitstream no longer PCM.
