I know there are several ways to accomplish what I am trying to do, Basically I had to buy 2 adapters from Fry's to make this work. 1. VGA to DVI-I, http://www.chinapans.com/images/dvi-vga.jpg 2. DVI-D to DVI-I. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k232/adam_06_2006/adapters.jpg My computer picture output ONLY has a VGA output. and my hdtv has HDMI, DVI, S-Video, rca, and component. The DVI type is DVI-D. Anyways I attached both adapters and had the cable running from the computer tower to the HDTV and there wasnt a picture. I tried turning stuff on and off but no picture, anyways I saw this on the internet for literally $5.00 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B000FM3EQ0/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=172282&s=electronics, would this work? If not whats the cheapest and easiest way to do this?? PLEASE HELP!!

No, that definitely will not work. That cable is designed to give you RGB from VGA. This cable will not convert VGA (RGBHV) to a Component Video signal. The Green cable in Component Video is a colorless component (Luminance) that includes horizontal and vertical sinc information. Red and Blue are color carrying components (Chromanance) that give only color information. This overcomes the problem of data redundancy that plagues RGB signals, since there is only one monochromatic image carried, instead of three. Component Video is completely different than RGB, so sorry, your 5 dollar solution won't do anything for you.

Cheapest way to do a nice job is to replace the computer's onboard video card with a Sapphire HDMI card. The Sapphire has a digital audio in, so you take a short RCA cable and connect your digital audio output from your sound card to the input on the video card, then the video card adds the audio to the HDMI signal leaving the card. It's the cleanest solution and will give you the best image and sound. I saw it for $121 on line.

Yes the VGA/RCA component cable will work, I would either go to bestbuy or your local electronic store to buy the VGA/RCA component cable, so that you don't have to wait to buy it, but if you want a bargain go to http://ebay.com

The video will not display immediately onto your television. If you have a laptop, you have to use one of the function buttons on your keyboard to display the picture onto your television
