All three that you mentioned make a wide array of systems, from inexpensive with value to feature loaded, latest technology, and pricey. Using these mfrs for an example, within this group, the model is much more significant than the maker. Each of these companies make better machines than the other, probably 4 or 5 times over. I mean you can take Samsung's bottom line, and LG's second string will come in better than it, only to be outdone by Samsung's top shelf line which is equal to Sony's top of the line, who makes the cheapest model and the most expensive. So between these, which shelf you pick it from will make the brand name matter very little in all actuality. There are mfrs whose product does stand clearly above or below. Onkyo, Marantz, Denon, Harman Kardon are all recognized mfrs of upper middle class av, while Apex, Coby, Digex, and RCA are masters of value, making second hottest technology affordable to everyone. Your best direction to take is set your price range (after looking around a little bit), and read the reviews of the candidates from that range. You'll be able to see patterns that show which ones please and which ones disappoint. Then, you will not be buying a shiny piece of junk for the familiarity of the name, but finding the best value, therefore discovering the best home theater system. There are plenty of products with reviews to make a wise purchase (even if you don't buy from them) @ Amazon. Good luck!

Im sorry but not everyone has that kind of money and isnt going to go all over the place for speakers and amps, if you want a decent home cinema system get a sony, they are not over priced and wor]k extremely well i have had mine for a few years, i havent had any problems and works really well when watching good films.

I would look at something offered from Klipsch or Polk Audio. Both of these tend to be very good quality for the money. It is important to read reviews of the systems online and make sure you get something that has a track record of lasting and a good warranty.

1: You should have included a budget to get the best answer.

If you buy an 'All-in-one' system you're going to get the worst of all worlds, guaranteed (crap electronics & speakers that they install in clock radio's).

Find a reputable, knowledgeable dealer and buy an A/V receiver and DVD/ BluRay player that fits your needs. As for great speakers on a budget, visit the Fluance.com website.

Wow all bad answers sorry to say. First when you say the best, the best gets very expensive as its almost endless what you can spend to get the very best in home audio and video systems. The key is asking what is recommended at a specific price range, which unfortunately you did not give. My guess is your talking in the low price range. A decent surround sound system will use separate speakers and components from different manufactures as the all in one or " name" brand systems are really junk. Not only do they not sound good, they are built poorly and will not last. Fixing these cheap systems when they fail ( and they will fail) is pointless and you'll end up having to buy a whole new system all over again.

A descent system will consist of separate speakers from a manufacture who only makes speakers and a receiver from one of the few manufactures who built good receivers like Marantz, Denon, or NAD.

Your best bet is go to one of your local independent high end audio video stores as they carry the better brands of speakers and equipment, and they generally have many years of experience designing and installing these types if systems.

The chain stires dont have a clue what they are doing and 98% of the equipment they carry us low end anyway.

Do yourself a favor and discover who your local high end dealer is and take your time and spent the extra money and get something decent, you will thank me later

GOOD FOR YOU!

You came and asked us BEFORE you bought one of these $299 crap systems.

We get a lot of questions here when people buy these systems, then want do do more than play disks on the internal drive. Then they discover what they gave up for the cheap all-in-one price.

These systems are cheap DVD or BluRay players with attached speakers. They actually work well for playing disks, but when 1 part breaks, you toss the whole thing. And you never ever can get 5.1 sound from your TV through them.

Try this: Go to Amazon and search for "Onkyo Home Theater". You will find a bunch of box systems that are actually good starter sets. They start about $380 but are vastly superior to the LG, Samsung, Sony box systems.

Also search for "Media Bridge" HDMI cables on Amazon. Fairly good HDMI cables for $9-$20.

Then go to www.bestblueraydeals.com and search for a BluRay player. I would recommend you NOT get a player that takes a $90 wireless dongle. Just get a good, basic player.

Hope this helps.

For the cheapest, go with RCA. For more quality, I'd recommend Sony (they have OK sound products). For audiophiles, go with something like Bose.
