Indeed. Depending on the sound processing your system is equipped with... most likely the DTS track will just sound louder.

I do believe the db levels are inherently louder based on original encoding

Supposedly since DTS tracks are larger than Dolby 5.1 files they would have a higher bit rate and therefore create a better sound stage....which is the main goal in any home theater set-up.

Personally I prefer the DTS Track.

However again... its purely subjective. We all hear things differently. Just enjoy what sounds best to you.

Good luck

I prefer Dolby Digital 5.1 (640kbps) over DTS Digital Surround (1059kbps). No doubt DTS produces richer sound and less compression, but the bad thing about DTS is that - the dialogue is too soft, and bass is too strong. Having DTS in a room making me not comfortable. Dolby Digital 5.1 is more balance overall, although softer than DTS at the same volume level. Dolby Digital 5.1 is more comfortable in hearing and enjoying a movie. But, it will be different saying if you like deep bass.

DTS is not available on all dvd's. I think DTS has a much better sound for special effects, so that's what I choose when given the option. If you need an example, watch the first action sequence of the third X-men movie in Dolby 5.1 and then in DTS, you should be able to tell the difference.

a lot of it has to do with the quality of your speakers and how you have them located.. Pro-logic has a limited frequency in the rear speakers...I think its like 100 Hz to 15,000 Hz while dolby digital has a full frequency response of 20 Hz to 20k... and also the right and left rear signal are discrete signals while in dolby ll they are not...if your rear speakers are small and have a limited frequency response of say 100 Hz to 18,000 Hz your really not going to hear much difference...also if you have them placed too close together or not high enough...without obstructions... they will not be able to produce the effect correctly...the separation is greater in dolby digital so the effects are easier to localize DTS is just another system that uses a different set of logarithms, in some rooms with some speakers it may sound better but the reverse could also be true....

DTS is better, not only is it a higher bit rate (less compressed), it is more up to date in other ways, too. For instance, in DTS, the right and left rear channels can receive individual (different) signals. Dolby essentially sends the same to both rear speakers, thus a less realistic surround effect. Dolby also limits the frequency range sent to the rear channels more than DTS, which is pretty much full range. This results in more realistic and vibrant rear channel effects in DTS, and a better match to the sound from the front speakers. So, yes DTS should be significantly better, depending on the quality and mix of sound on any particular disc.

It really depends on taste and hearing, because many people like 5.1 because they said its true surround sound meaning that is how they record the audio track and they dont like dts because is a compress audio track that have to much information in it to handle. For me DTS sound more louder, robust and like 3d the bass are deeper and the effect more noticeable.

I like both but if the movie have a dts track i choose it over 5.1 because logic said that if a DTS track is available it means that the movie was originally mix for DTS and the 5.1 option will came from the dts mix. if it doesnt have a DTS option of course 5.1 would be better than 2.0 stereo !

I like the DTS because it sounds louder then the 5.1 on the same volume level. But you really can't tell on most systems. Now there is True DTS and HD DTS, there will always be something better.

Dolby Digital is better. It enjoys MUCH wider compatibility and the difference in sound quality is next to nothing.

Most people can't tell the difference.

DTS uses more "bits" so in principle should sound better, but you really need a good audio system to tell the difference.

DTS only , because the sound quality is very superb and un comparable.
