Okay, first of all, the media that you are playing has to have DTS sound also.

You cant just convert Dolby to DTS.

Also, your receiver should also have a DTS decoder. If not, then it cant play any DTS Audio.

So if you have a DVD that only supports Dolby Digital 5.1 then you cant play that DVD with a DTS Sound.

And btw, I like DTS sound better than Dolby, its way way way way better.

If after you've tried everything else, I'd pull out the manual and check to see if it supports DTS over the input you're using.

For example, an RCA receiver I have will only allow the Coaxial digital input to be used from the CD source. However, it won't play Dolby Digital since that's not a CD format. It will play DTS (even DTS 5.1) through Coaxial because there are DTS-CDs.

In order for Dolby to work, I needed to get a DVD player with Optical output since the manual said the DVD input could use the Optical 1 input, which allows Dolby Digital and DTS.

So, check your manual to see if it allows DTS over the input you're using. You might need optical if you are using coaxial or vice versa.

DTS aka Digital Theater Sound is a sound coding format rivaling Dolby Digital. It is designed for surround sound although DTS started this coding system on movie theaters. Anyway almost 99% of dvd softwares are dolby encoded and about 70% are both dolby and dts. Check your software (dvd disc if it has dts audio signal). check the box of the disc for this info or toggle the audio selector of your dvd player and check if the dts format is available. Some AV receivers automatically detects this signal but you may also have to check manually . (I'm sure your avreceiver is dts capaple as you mentioned). If you have no problem with your dolby 5.1 connection and is working fine then dts should also works as long as the above informations are followed.

First you need a DVD movie that has DTS.

Go to the menu of your MOVIE, go to Options or Sound, and select DTS (The default is usually Dolby Digital)

Now, go to the receiver and set it to either AUTO or DTS and it should work just fine.

Update: I assume you use the digital audio out from your DVD player and your DVD player is set to output Bitstream and NOT PCM.

It may be as simple as "switching on" the DTS output inside the DVD player...Not the disc menu, but the actually DVD player set up menu...Make sure your DTS setting is "bitstream" and not "PCM"...Most DVD players are sent from the factory with the DTS output set to "off" (PCM).

In addition to all the other good and helpful answers, check the audio output settings on your source device (DVD Player, sat. receiver, etc.).

Some have settings like digital/bitstream/both. If you're set to digital, try switching to both or bitstream. If that works, you'll have to change the setting back to digital for DD5.1 sources, and back to both/bitstream for DTS sources.
